About the
founder and the history of GTBC…
At the age of 12, Henrik first saw the Tour de
France on TV and was instantly hooked. He took an hour bus ride with all his
saved money and bought his first road bike. A 58cm roadie that to this day is
still 4cm too big for him.
Fast forward a few years, Henrik began racing
mountain bike DH, and XC through his teens. Embracing his love and passion for
cycling ambitiously opened a bike shop while still in high school under the
name Bikeology. While still finishing high school at the time he looked to his
older graduate friends to look after the shop during the day.
Over the years, Bikeology evolved into The
Greater Toronto Bicycle Company, GTBC Inc. It’s mantra-- Supporting Excellence.
When Schwinn & Johnny G released the world’s
first SPIN bikes they started to make their way into facilities and gyms across
Canada. When these bikes first started needing parts and service GTBC was
there. At the time it was new to everyone and no one was focusing on this
segment. Schwinn’s outdoor division didn’t want to handle parts or service for
indoor bikes so when asked he jumped in with both feet. He said “Sure, hey if
it’s a bike that goes nowhere, how hard can it be?”
Over the last two decades Henrik is still learning
and innovating. He has spent his time supporting indoor cycling programs at a
range of facilities from commercial, corporate to speciality & boutique
studios across Canada.
